Thank you to Dr. Giles, Dr. Crooks, Ms. Tooks and the High School Musical Cast for visiting our class today, the signed High School Musical thank you poster and treats!
Students completed the elements and principles of design exercise ( standard 2.1, 2.3) and revisited basic AutoCAD to create multiview drawings of one of their constructed study models.
Students not working on high school musical are studying basic house styles, designs and site plans using our textbook - Architecture- Residential Drafting and Design (Chapters 1-3, Standard 2) and beginning to create a site plan and lasercut model of their homes using AutoCAD and research from Cobb County GIS. ( Standards 2,2, 2,4, 2,6, 3,1, 4,2, 4,6)
Students are working on a 2-week set design charrette for the upcoming show High School Musical. Students reviewed plans of a pre-existing set design created by a community theater and met with Mr. Corvalan from Engineering to come up with a modified design and discuss structure requirements. Students are using Autodesk Inventor to create and test the structure, AutoCAD to lasercut and assemble 1/4 scale models of the proposed set, hand building skills to make a foam core scale model of the new PAC as well as a 1/2" scale model of the structure.
Today we discussed examples of the architectural design process. Video - Frank Gehry. The differences between the world of work vs. world of architecture school. Quick review of multi-view drawing - sketching the front, top & right views of an object. Students were asked to sketch a multi-view drawing of the scribble model. They were asked to work collaboratively to pin the drawings up precisely and neatly on the display wall - goal presentation skills - pin up drawings for reviews.
Today we discussed classroom expectations and procedures, and did an ice breaker activity. Ice breaker activity: Students were asked to draw and build a scribble while imagining themselves walking through spaces of a house or other type of building. No glue or tape. Just paper and cutting tools. Goal: To develop model making, visualization, abstract problem solving, and presentation skills. Beginning standard AC-ADDI-2 - Identify components related to the architectural design process.
I will be posting resources and course information as well as project and test dates on this website. Please feel free to contact me via email if you have any questions or need additional information. I look forward to seeing you and having a great semester!
